The first quarter of 2025 brought significant growth in electromobility in Czechia. While 1,308 new fully electric vehicles were registered from January to March last year, this year their number reached 3,113 units – representing a year-on-year increase of 138%. Electric vehicles thus achieved a record market share of 5.22% in the overall passenger car market.
Skoda heads for the top, Tesla declines
The clear winner of the start of the year is undoubtedly Skoda Auto, which recorded 1,106 electric vehicle registrations on the domestic market. It is driven not only by the proven Enyaq model, but also by the newcomer Elroq, which shares its technology with the Enyaq but offers more compact dimensions and a friendlier price.
In contrast, Tesla, which dominated last year with 3,716 registrations for the full year, holds second place in the quarterly comparison this year with 533 vehicles. Despite this, it improved year-on-year by 64%. Globally, however, the automaker recorded a 13% decline in deliveries, which may be due to anticipation of the Model Y facelift or the media-controversial behaviour of Elon Musk.

Skoda dominated the rankings not only in the number of brand registrations but also in individual models. Enyaq and Elroq completely dominate, while the Model Y from Tesla drops to third place.
Alternative powertrains on the rise
Electric vehicles are not the only segment experiencing growth – year-on-year registrations also increased for:
Plug-in hybrids by 54.3% (2,175 vehicles),
Non-plug-in hybrids by 18.9% (12,716 vehicles),
Vehicles with alternative powertrains overall by 30.1%.
The total share of alternative powertrains in the passenger car market now reaches 32.6%.
Conclusion
The Czech electric vehicle market is gaining momentum, and the start of 2025 only confirms this. The domestic brand Skoda is fully capitalising on local trust and an expanding portfolio. Tesla, although still strong, faces a slowdown and global challenges.
