A wallbox is a compact, wall-mounted charging station for electric vehicles — designed for the places where you park most often: at home in the garage, at a company car park, or in an apartment building. Technically, it is a control unit (EVSE) that delivers alternating current (AC) from your building's wiring to the car: over a communication line it agrees a safe current with the vehicle, then starts, controls, and stops the charging session. The actual conversion to direct current for the battery is handled by the car's onboard charger. Compared with charging from an ordinary socket, a wallbox therefore offers higher, stable power, protective features, and remote management. It connects to the vehicle via the standard Type 2 connector.
Safety is the key difference between a wallbox and improvised socket charging. A wallbox is wired to a dedicated, properly protected circuit and includes its own safeguards — notably DC fault-current detection, which together with a residual-current device protects you even during long charging cycles. As a result it handles the sustained high load that an ordinary socket is not built for long-term. For outdoor installation the ingress rating matters — all MyBox models offer IP54 and IK10 (protection against water, dust, and impact).
