The number of electric vehicles on Czech roads grew significantly, a successful subsidy programme boosted interest in clean mobility and the charging station infrastructure expanded faster than ever before. That was 2024 -- a watershed year in many respects, including for MyBox. Interested in the details? We have prepared a clear summary for you.
The Growth of Electric Vehicles in the Czech Republic Was Record-Breaking
The year 2024 brought a fundamental shift in electromobility on Czech roads. From January to October alone, nearly 9,000 new electric vehicles were added -- the largest year-on-year increase in history. According to available data, by the end of October there were more than 33,000 electric cars registered in the Czech Republic.
This growth clearly demonstrates the increasing interest in sustainable mobility. For comparison: in 2017, electric vehicles accounted for just 0.11% of newly registered vehicles; this year, the share exceeded 4%. Although the total number of electric vehicles in the Czech Republic still lags behind the European average, more affordable vehicles and expanding infrastructure show that electromobility has a firm place and a clear future.
Subsidy Programme -- the Impulse That Got the Market Moving
The subsidy programme supporting the purchase of electric vehicles launched in March 2024. The National Development Bank (NRB) in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade distributed CZK 1.95 billion in subsidies and loan guarantees. Applicants could only draw the subsidy when arranging a loan with a bank guarantee. Applications were closed early on 14 October at 2 PM because the funds were completely exhausted.
We can thank this programme for the record number of newly registered electric vehicles. Companies and entrepreneurs used the financial support to switch to a cleaner and more cost-effective mode of transport. Thanks to this impulse, electromobility in the Czech Republic experienced one of the most significant advances in history.
Charging Infrastructure Also Grew
The list of publicly accessible charging stations shows that as of 31 October 2024, there were 4,877 charging points registered in the Czech Republic. Compared to the end of 2022, the public infrastructure grew by more than 2,200 charging points. This increase confirms that the development of infrastructure is keeping pace with the rapid growth in the number of electric vehicles on the roads.
In addition to public infrastructure, the number of private and corporate charging stations is also growing. Many companies have decided to invest in their own charging points, which serve not only employees but also visitors and customers. At MyBox we actively support this trend and our references are proof of that. Moreover, we have expanded our services to include tailored solutions, from design to the implementation of charging infrastructure.
2024 Was Also a Significant Year for MyBox
We expanded our cloud services for fleet management, enabling companies to better optimise operations and costs associated with electromobility.
Another significant step was the introduction of service packages that ensure the long-term reliability of our charging solutions. Our participation in eSALON also opened doors to new opportunities and contacts, particularly in the hotel and restaurant segment. In short, 2024 was a period of growth, innovation and service expansion -- from initial feasibility studies to complete charging project implementation. The year 2024 showed that electromobility has a firm place in the Czech Republic and is heading towards a sustainable future. MyBox will continue to deliver innovative charging solutions to help you keep pace with this trend.
