Why Is Proper EV Charging So Important?
Proper battery management is key to optimising its lifespan and performance. While it is possible to charge the battery from 0% to 100%, frequent full discharges or charges to maximum capacity may not be ideal for maintaining its long-term condition.
The Ideal Charging Range
Modern batteries in electric vehicles, such as Li-ion batteries, have an optimal charge range between 20% and 80%. Keeping the battery within this range helps extend its lifespan while also enabling the most efficient charging. Charging speed is also highest within these limits, meaning you can quickly gain enough capacity for your next drive.
Recommendations for Daily Charging and Longer Trips
If possible, it is advisable to regularly check the battery's state of charge and recharge it when it drops to a lower level. Charging to 100% is recommended mainly before a longer trip, but it is not necessary to fully charge the battery every day. Keeping the battery between 20% and 80% allows you to optimise its performance while also extending its lifespan.
